Benjamin Anderson

Ben, 23, has BAs in history and economics from
Creighton University in Omaha. He was an
Interfaith Worker Justice intern in Minneapolis
and taught math to seventh graders with the
Six Weeks A Jesuit program in New York. He
is interested in community living and enjoys
swimming and fishing.

 

Matthew Baugh
Casa, Arkansas
New Orleans Province

Matthew, 28, has a bachelor’s in international
development from Duke, a master’s in
international relations from Oxford, and a law
degree from Yale. A Rhodes Scholar, Matthew
edited the Yale Journal of International Law
and was a volunteer consultant for World Youth
Alliance. He also co-wrote and recorded radio
programs on public health in rural Haiti. In his
downtime he skis, fishes, and plays piano.

 

Daniel Corrou
Saratoga Springs, New York
New England Province

Dan, 35, has a BA in religious studies from
Le Moyne College in Syracuse and a Master
of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity.
He worked for Fidelity Investments and was a
volunteer with Jesuit Volunteers International
(JVI) in Micronesia. He later became associate
director of JVI. Dan enjoys traveling, opera,
and reading.

 

Patrick Couture
Quincy, Washington
Oregon Province

Patrick, 25, received a bachelor’s degree
in English writing from Carroll College in
Helena, Montana, and worked in his family’s
heating and cooling business. He is interested
in education and social ministry and enjoys
weightlifting, reading, and writing.

 

Roberto Carlos Durán
San Salvador, El Salvador
California Province

Roberto, 29, has a BA in advertising from the
Universidad Don Bosco and a teaching degree
from the Instituto Especializado de Educación
Superior in San Salvador. He taught in El
Salvador and worked in sales at El Bohemio
News, a Spanish paper in San Francisco. He
was active in his parish; his interests include
reading, music, and running.

 

Bryce Evans
St. Louis Park, Minnesota
Wisconsin Province

Bryce, 23, has a BA in theology from Marquette
University. He volunteered at Red Cloud Indian
School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, and has been
on several mission trips. His academic interests
include philosophy, Latin, math, and science, and
he enjoys hockey and golf in his leisure time.

 

Matthew Fish
Tacoma, Washington
New Orleans Province

Matthew, 28, has a BA in philosophy from
Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio
and an MA in theology from the International
Theological Institute in Gaming, Austria. He
taught literature at Jesuit College Prep in Dallas,
taught theology in Austria, and volunteered in
youth ministry at his home parish. He enjoys
road trips and the great outdoors.

 

Thomas Flowers
Morgan Hill, California
California Province

Thomas, 23, graduated from Bellarmine College
Prep in San Jose, earned a BA in history from
the University of California–Santa Barbara,
and studied pastoral ministry at Santa Clara
University. He worked in a bookstore, taught
religion at Archbishop Riordan High in San
Francisco, and has been very active in young
adult ministry. His interests include creative
writing and reading.

 

Christopher Harris
Metairie, Louisiana
New Orleans Province

Chris, 27, studied finance at Santa Clara
University. He was a management consultant
in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, where he
also tended bar and was on a sailboat crew. He
enjoys languages, Church history, swimming,
reading, and playing guitar.

Lorenzo, 33, served in the air force for seven
years and worked in AIDS education and
prevention for various nonprofit groups. In high
school, he spent a semester as an exchange
student in Brazil and learned Portuguese. He
likes writing, travel, music, and yoga.

 

Andrij Mykola Hlabse
Brecksville, Ohio
Detroit Province

Andi, 22, earned a BA in music and romance
languages and literature from the University
of Notre Dame. An avid jazz musician, he
enjoys composing and performing. A Ukrainian
Byzantine Catholic, Andi went on two service
trips to Ecuador and studied in Rome. He
speaks Spanish, Italian, and Ukranian.

 

Christian Hoeffel
Garrett, Indiana
Chicago Province

Christian, 22, has a bachelor’s degree in
political science from the University of Notre
Dame. Active in politics, he has interned with
several local political offices and managed
his mother’s campaign for mayor. His leisure
time is devoted to football fandom, travel, and
tutoring.

 

Jason Lalonde
Lakeland, Florida
New Orleans Province

Jason, 27, received a BA in English and history
from Florida State University and an MBA from
the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was
active in numerous ministries and programs at
his parish in Gainesville and volunteered at the
Catholic Worker House there. He has worked in
arts administration and in software marketing.
He enjoys opera, theater, and cycling.

 


Michael Laveson
Bainbridge Island,
Washington
Oregon Province

Mike, 24, earned BAs in philosophy and
theology from Boston College. He has traveled
to El Salvador and Spain and worked in the
L’Arche community in Tacoma, Washington. He
is interested in refugee services and likes to
swim, read, and play the violin.

 


David Moore
Kempner, Texas
New Orleans Province

David, 27, holds a BA in aerospace engineering
from Texas A&M University. He served in the
air force for three years as an engineer. He
volunteered with Theology on Tap and was on
the board of an inmate reintegration program
in Dayton, Ohio. He enjoys traveling, board
games, and sports.

 


Shane Mulligan
St. Louis
Missouri Province

Shane, 19, studied theology and Spanish at
Saint Louis University. He worked in various
administrative positions at his alma mater,
St. Louis University High, and developed the
website for SLUH’s counseling department.
He has volunteered at local hospitals and
nurseries and enjoys gardening, photography,
and graphic design.

 

John Peck
New Kensington,
Pennsylvania

Maryland Province
John, 26, earned a bachelor’s in philosophy
from the Pontifical College Josephinum in
Columbus, Ohio, and a bachelor’s in sacred
theology from the Pontifical Gregorian
University in Rome. A modern languages
enthusiast, John speaks German, Italian, and
French. He enjoys traveling, art museums, and
classical music.

 


Sean Powers
St. Louis
Missouri Province

Sean, 20, studied history and theology at
Creighton University in Omaha, where he also
worked at the Center for Service and Justice.
An Eagle Scout, Sean spent four summers
at S-F Scout Ranch in southern Missouri. He
also volunteered at several Omaha parishes.
He enjoys backpacking, painting, and the St.
Louis Cardinals.

 


James Riordan
Chicago
Chicago Province

Jim, 30, has BAs in philosophy and theology
and an MA in theology from Loyola University
Chicago. He taught at St. Patrick’s High and
DePaul University, and was a case worker for
the developmentally disabled at Misericordia
Center, all in Chicago. In his free time, Jim
loves cooking, working out, and films.

Maryland Province

AJ, 26, holds a BS in biology from the
University of Scranton and recently earned
an MA in pastoral counseling from Loyola
College in Maryland. He worked in ministry
at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Maryland, and
St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. AJ has also
directed student service trips to Arizona, New
Mexico, Jamaica, and Mexico.

 


Kyle Roark
Auburn, Indiana
Chicago Province

Kyle, 24, has a bachelor’s in philosophy from
St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota.
He was assistant golf pro at Bridgewater Golf
Course and varsity golf coach at Lakewood Park
High School in his hometown; he also tutored
philosophy students at St. Mary’s. Kyle loves
weight-lifting, golf, reading, and basketball.

 


Michael Rossmann
Iowa City, Iowa
Wisconsin Province

Michael, 22, has BAs in economics and theology
from the University of Notre Dame, were he
was valedictorian. He has traveled throughout
East Africa and Europe and studied and taught
in Uganda and Poland. Michael is interested in
agricultural economics and development; in his
free time he enjoys reading, running, hiking,
and cooking.

 


Edgar Sanchez
Mexico City
Chicago Province

Edgar, 37, has a degree in graphic design from
the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in
Mexico, studied computer graphics at DePaul
University in Chicago, and worked as a graphic
designer. He took part in several immersion
trips with DePaul to Ecuador and El Salvador.
Edgar enjoys photography, drawing, swimming,
and hiking.

 


Henry Joseph Shea
Wayzata, Minnesota
Maryland Province

HJ, 22, is a 2007 graduate of Georgetown
University with a BA in government. HJ also
studied at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado
in Santiago, Chile, and taught English in
Panama. In 2006 he worked at the Philanthropy
Roundtable in Washington, D.C. His hobbies
include basketball, jogging, and playing piano.

 

Travis Stoops
Venetia, Pennsylvania
Maryland Province

Travis, 24, received a BA in philosophy from
Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He cofounded
Duquesne’s chapter of Phi Sigma Tau,
the international philosophy honor society. A
classics enthusiast and trombone player, Travis
also enjoys fishing, reading, and jazz.

 


John Tanner
Pasadena, California
California Province

John, 25, has BAs in philosophy and religious
studies from California State University–Long
Beach. He worked as coordinator of youth and
young adult ministry at his parish in Brea,
Calif. He has traveled to Europe, Japan, and
New Zealand. His interests include playing the
guitar and bass, watching movies, reading,
and running.

Omaha
Wisconsin Province

Tho, 23, has a BS in emergency medical
services from Creighton University in Omaha.
He was a medical librarian, did genetic
research, and was a team-leading paramedic
at Creighton. He has traveled to Vietnam and
coached tennis and soccer. He enjoys chess,
origami, and playing piano.

Ben, 23, has a BA in philosophy from the
University of Notre Dame, where he was also a
retreat leader and campus minister. He taught
philosophy and theology at Creighton Prep
in Omaha and has traveled to the Dominican
Republic, Uganda, Italy, and Russia. He loves
playing music, reading, frisbee, and running.

 


Joseph Wotawa
St. Louis
Missouri Province

Joe, 19, graduated from Saint Louis University
High. He worked as a camp counselor at
Midtown Catholic Charities in St. Louis, was a
receptionist at his parish, and volunteered at
the St. Louis Science Center. He is interested
in Russian language and culture and enjoys
music, soccer, and world events.

 


Michael Wynar
Denver
Missouri Province

Michael, 24, holds BAs in English and
philosophy from Regis University in Denver.
He lived at Romero House at Regis, volunteering
at the Boys and Girls Club full time. He also
tutored runaway youth. Misio has traveled
extensively throughout Europe and Asia and
enjoys volleyball, painting, and fixing things.
